Villa E.1027 by Eileen Gray in Ruins

Recently some architectural magazine in The Netherlands published a cry of distress by Herman and Hans Hertzberger. During a visit this summer to Eileen Gray's Villa E.1027 they saw the Villa in a deplorable state. The objective of their SOS is to let the world know about this disaster in the making. They hope that The Villa's fate can still be turned.
Last september the fifth DOCOMOMO congress accepted a resolution. In it the owners of the villa and French authorities responsible for their cultural heritage are called upon to save the villa from further neglect.
ArchiNed wants to support Herman and Hans Hertzberger's campaign by opening a protest guestbook. The appeal for help, including pictures of the current state of the villa can be found here.

Interior

Eileen Gray (1878-1976) worked together with Jean Badovici on the design and building of the villa from 1924 until 1929. She regarded the villa in Roquebrune as a prototype, a researchproject on modern living. She succeed in this because Villa E.1027 is considered as one of the main examples of optimistic modernism.
Most of the furniture in the villa was special designed for it by Gray. The mural is by Le Corbusier and date from 1938.
