MVRDV: Permanence

©1995 Joost Grootens / MVRDV

MVRDV in Rotterdam is known for its innovative architecture. The 'WoZoCo' in Amsterdam (1996) and the VPRO-villa in Hilversum (under construction) have given the office a great deal of publicity. Less well-known is that MVRDV are also active in the field of urban planning. One experiment in this field is 'alleviated urban planning'.
A sample of alleviated urban planning is the animation 'Permanence', showing interesting mutations of the city of Rotterdam with a surprising end. Important here is the 'alleviation' of the city, as opposed to the 'condensation' of the city. MVRDV are convinced that ecology and economy should and can be united.
