ArchiNed's aim

To be an independent architectural platform, collecting, linking and editing Internet information in the field of activity covered by the spatial design professions in the Netherlands: architecture, urban design and landscape architecture.

ArchiNed's primary purpose is to make use of the chances and opportunities offered by the medium of the Internet to widen the interchange of information, both commercial and cultural, between designers, institutions, government bodies, clients, researchers and students and to assist in making such interchange faster and more effective.

A platform of this sort will not only improve the flow of information within the profession in the widest sense, but will also offer a new way to acquire know-how in the field of activity of the spatial design professions to persons and institutions from outside those professions, so promoting a new way of improving professionalism and quality awareness amongst clients and users. Thanks to the facilities provided by the Internet, architectonic culture as a whole has discovered new ways to disseminate its aims and views.

Because of the 'boundless' nature of the Internet, ArchiNed offers Dutch architectonic culture as a whole and Dutch designers individually a new way of presenting themselves internationally. Conversely, by the way it selects and filters its content, ArchiNed makes the supply of information from abroad accessible and comprehensible in the Netherlands.

Besides compiling the available supply of information, ArchiNed supplements the existing supply by adding its own informative and relevant information and activities to improve and widen know-how and stimulate dialogue within the profession, making use of the new opportunities provided by the medium.

Structure

The ArchiNed site has two main parts: one consisting of the own sites of designers, institutions and others (ArchiNed Sites) and the other of those activities and services which ArchiNed itself adds to this supply (ArchiNed News, Offline and Extra).

There is also a separate service section that advises designers and institutions on building home pages (ArchiNed Service).

Sites

The supply of information collected in ArchiNed Sites is aimed by ArchiNed at four main groups:

  1. Designers (architects, urban designers, landscape architects)
  2. Institutions and government bodies (central and local government and governmental bodies, museums, exhibition halls, designers' associations and professional organisations)
  3. Educational establishments (universities, colleges)
  4. Others (consultancy firms, photographers, model makers, publishers, newspapers etc.)

ArchiNed provides links between the various own sites to improve the traffic between them.

Activities and services

One part of ArchiNed's own activities is informative or reflective in nature (News, Offline). Another is to stimulate the dialogue on and participation in new developments within the profession (Extra). ArchiNed will encourage visitors to participate in discussions on relevant subjects within the profession, and will develop new activities as visitors show interest.

ArchiNed Service

ArchiNed offers advice and practical support to improve the use of the Internet as a medium for transferring information between designers, design offices and architectural institutions. Its own department, ArchiNed Service, advises on connection to the Internet and helps in setting up own home pages and sites and putting them on the net.

This process can be made easier by the use of 'prefabs', prefabricated structures specially developed for this target group, making possible a relatively cheap and simple but effective presentation. It is also possible to arrive by consultation at a custom-built solution, fully adapted to the nature of the information available and the potential of the Internet. Advertising on ArchiNed is also possible. Please contact Yvon van Rossum for more information service@archined.nl
