Studio in America
September 28, 2000
UN Studio (Berkel & Bos) together with Brad Cloepfil, Zaha
Hadid and Thom Mayne are chosen out of fifty designoffices as potential
designers for the renovation and expansion of the Wadsworth Atheneum
Museum in Hartford (V.S.). The design architect will be named in
mid-October.

On Friday September 15, at the Storefront Gallery in New
York, Terence Riley (Chief Curator Architecture & Design of MOMA)
opened the exhibition MOVEMENT!, featuring work by the Dutch interior
and landscape designer Petra Blaisse.

Groundcontrol: Comfortable Landing

Back to where Groundcontrol was launched: the engine building
of the Wester Gasworks in Amsterdam. Last Saturday the platform
for young urban designers and landscape architects got ready for
the touchdown! that rounded off two years of research and discussion.
What is the state of physical planning in the Netherlands in the
year 2000? Can anything be done to combat the imprecision and compartmentalisation
that characterise physical planning today?

Just before ArchiNed takes a short
summer break till mid-august, we would like to draw you attention
to the research projects recently presented at the Berlage Institute
in Amsterdam. This Laboratory for Architecture facilitates
a highly international group of young architects for a two-year
research programme. On July 4th and 5th, in two-day event, the results
of these two-year researches were presented by a group of 12 of
its participants. What do they focus on? A short summary of the
works can be found in this article.
Archiprix
2000

The winners of the first Archiprix of this century were announced
recently. Each year the Dutch institutions of architectural education
put forward their best student projects for Archiprix. A jury then
selects the very best projects from the past academic year. Here
are the results.
Vision
Machine
July 11, 2000
Visit
the first broadcasting of ArchiTV, on the making of the Vision Machine
installation in Nantes (France) by Lars Spuybroek. The broadcast
is available in three versions for Realvideo and QuickTime. ArchiNed
presents a short film (by Marc Neelen, Tony Maslic and Piet Vollaard)
on the making of the installation, an interview with Lars Spuybroek
and photos of the project. The film lasts for about 17 minutes.
