Archis goes on!
December 14, 2000
Archis found a new publisher and will still appear
next year though in a slightly different form.
We recieved this message from the Archis editors:
"GOOD
NEWS!!!
During
the last few months this magazine has been teetering on the brink
of extinction. Both parties in the existing combination, the Netherlands
Architecture Institute and the publisher, Elsevier Bedrijfsinformatie,
gave us to understand that as of December 31st 2000 they would cease
production of Archis.
But
Archis is marching on. As of January 1st 2001 the title will be
accommodated in an independent foundation. The publishing and exploitation
will pass to Artimo in Amsterdam. This means that a platform where
opinions on architecture, the city and visual culture can be shaped
in freedom and independence has been saved from oblivion.
Archis
will still be the well-known forum for criticism, debate and research,
though we are taking this opportunity to make a number of major
changes to the format.
Archis will be published in a modified form, beginning with the
next issue. The magazine will appear six times a year, in a new
design and in two separate editions, all-Dutch and all-English.
Each issue will include a project dossier containing full documentation,
a research survey bringing together visions and vantage points on
a particular theme, and a report on innovations in the building
process, materials and concepts. Naturally the focus on things extraterritorial
and interdisciplinary will remain, as will the searching book reviews
and the popular Chronicle. And all this on the principle that, from
an editorial viewpoint, asking questions is of greater import than
providing answers.
We have worked hard to create a sound plan for the future. Now it
is up to the reader, you in other words. We badly need your support,
for needless to say there is no Archis without you!"
E-congratulations can be send to: info@archis.org,
flowers and wine to: Archis, Jonkindstraat 5, 3015 CG Rotterdam,
