Aalto in the NAI

On the occasion of the fact that he was born hundred years ago, the Finnish museum for architecture constructed the travelling exhibition Alvar Aalto in Seven Works which can be seen until August 16th in the large hall of the Netherlands Architecture Institute in Rotterdam. How can you bring together the versatile life's work of this master in an exhibition?
Nostalgia and Security in Brabant

Friday June 19, the third Vinex On Site debate will take place in the Chassé Theater in Breda. After locations in North and East Netherlands, this time the spotlight will be on Vinex plans of five different cities in the province of North Brabant. Two of the Brabant plans: Haverleij in 's-Hertogenbosch and Brandevoort in Helmond differ from the average Vinex plans. Nostalgia and security as alternative.
Results of 5th Eo Wijers competition

On May 20th in Groningen, The Eo Wijers foundation presented the prizes of the fifth competition which this organisation has organised for the promotion of designing on an above local scale level. The assignment was entirely in the spirit of the time: how to deal with an empty program. The participants were asked to generate ideas for the landscape development of the North of the Netherlands. Out of the 57 entries two first prizes, one second, a third prize and five incentive prizes were chosen. In total, fl 80,000 was given out in prize money.
Cepezed builds for Porsche

The Delft architectural firm Cepezed has won the manifold contract for a large scale expansion of the head office of Porsche in Stuttgart, Germany. Initially a customer centre ('Kundenzentrum') will be realised that will also serve as an example for other locations of this renowned car manufacturor.
Nomadic Pavilion opened
May 4, 1998
Friday May 1st, the Nomadic Pavilion was opened in the atrium of the Hague's City Hall. Until September 15th this pavilion will function as 'temporary encampment' for several activities in the area of plastic arts, music, theatre, architecture and media technology. The activities around the pavilion take place in the framework of the Hague 750 years. During this coming summer the 'IJspaleis' (Ice Palace) will be heated with seminars, theatre performances, exhibitions, design and art installations and several computer applications.
OMA in Berlin
April 20, 1998
Today the design for the new building of the Dutch Embassy in Germany by Rem Koolhaas (OMA) will be presented. The embassy is situated on a not too spectacular spot at the bank of the river Spree. This inspired Koolhaas nevertheless to deliver an enlightened design criticising at the very same moment the conservative conceptions on architecture predominating Berlin during the last years.
The Return of paraSITE
April 3, 1998
paraSITE, the 20 metre long interactive, inflatable sculpture building from Attila returns to the Netherlands after a European Tour. As of April 16th it will be set up in the atrium of The Hague's city hall. Maybe paraSITE -loaded with images and sounds during the tour- is capable of thawing out the IJspaleis (Ice palace).
