The tent of the
future
June,
1999
The English architect Catalin Dragomir has been named winner
of the design competition 'the tent of the future'. De Boer Tents
from Alkmaar organised the competition on the occasion of their
75th anniversary. The assignment was to make a tent or a combination
of smaller tents, which can be set up in two days and can be transported
quickly. The construction method therefore holds an important place
in the designs. The prize was awarded on May 28th.
DeepSurface
June,
1999
Recently the exhibition DeepSurface - the unvisual image
of NOX/Lars Spuybroek - could be seen in the Hilversum gallery Exedra.
As can be expected from Lars Spuybroek it was not a regular panorama
exhibition where the neatly photographed work, complete with informative
title plates, hangs from to the wall. Instead, the visitor is expected
to undergo a total experience, to feel some of Spuybroek's intentions.

AIR-Southbound:
New Landscape Frontiers
May,
1999
The exhibition AIR-Zuidwaarts/Southbound, Waar het Landschap begint/New
Landscape Frontiers opened in the NAi. This marks the last part
of the sixth AIR manifestation that started in September 1998. The
subject is the layout of the south flank of the western urban agglomerate
and the layout of the Delta between Rotterdam and Amsterdam. The
manifestation and the traditional design commission are mainly focussed
at the island Hoeksche Waard situated south of Rotterdam. Until
now the island managed to remain invisible for planners, but the
pressure of urbanisation is becoming increasingly palpable.
